The 2007 – 2008 season marks the beginning of our 32nd year, and what an exciting year it will be. We look foreword to many great concerts and performances for all of the boys, finalizing with a much anticipated “Journey” over the summer. This summer the Concert Choir and Second Generation Singers will be representing our organization, community and country as they tour South Africa. This will be our first tour to the African continent, and we are all very excited at this opportunity.
I would like to take a moment to thank all of our Friends of Singing Sons who donate through our Annual Friends Giving Program, our advertisers, supporters, parents and volunteers. As a Non-Profit agency, we survive on the donations and the volunteer support of many individuals, groups and organizations. Why do they support the Florida’s Singing Sons Boychoir and Second Generation Singers? Is it just about the music? The music may be part of the reason, because the music is outstanding, but it kind of speaks for itself. The side of the Florida’s Singing Sons Boychoir and Second Generation Singers that may not be so obvious, that keep many people involved long after their sons have graduated from the program, is the opportunity for growth that this organization provides. Helping to develop a passion for excellence, a strength of character, and high self-esteem are only a few of the benefits associated with membership in the Florida’s Singing Sons Boychoir and Second Generation Singers. The boys and young men of Singing Sons benefit from unique experiences that change their views and expectations of every part of their lives. I encourage you to join all of our supporters by getting involved in whatever way you can.
Founded in 1975 with a tradition of integrity, leadership and dedication, the Florida’s Singing Sons Boychoir and the Second Generation Singers move into our fourth decade bringing musical excellence to our community. Singing Sons’ Music Literacy Education Program is designed for boys from age eight through high school. Boys come from all walks of life and are accepted into the program without regard to race, religion, or economic standing. Our annual membership now includes hundreds of boys and young men in four choirs. Our alumni number in the thousands.
The “Journey” that these boys are on, those just starting out, as well as those who are nearing the end, is designed to help them become the best musician, student, young man, and ambassador, representing our families, communities, and this organization. I have witnessed my own son’s “Journey,” developing from the little boy that entered the program into the proud, confident young man that he has become. His experiences with the Florida’s Singing Sons Boychoir and Second Generation Singers are helping him become a young man that I am so proud of.
In closing I would like to share the words of Forest Witcraft:
